Local Authorities send around 13 million tonnes of waste to landfill every year. This costs them over £1billion per year in landfill tax.
But this waste can also be a valuable resource - PPS has pioneered a unique technology in the UK which converts household waste into an alternative fuel that can replace traditional fossil fuels. A sustainable solution to waste disposal which saves both carbon emissions and Council taxpayers' money.
Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) meets the demanding UK and EU standards. It is produced from non-hazardous waste to be used as an alternative energy source to fossil fuels.
We developed and built a Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) Plant for Swindon Borough Council in 2014. It was the first of its kind to use municipal household waste as its primary feedstock. The plant is currently converting 55,000 tonnes of Swindon residents’ household waste per year into fuel. The plant can also take another 50,000 tonnes a year of commercial waste.
We moisture check our SRF regularly on site and a sample is tested by an independent laboratory circa 500 bales (approximately twice per week) to ensure we are achieving the above specification.
We can adapt the plant and process to meet a required specification for any end user.
Public Power Solutions have been a fantastic company to work with. They have always provided a very reliable service and the Solid Recovered Fuel that they produce is always in line with our specification. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Public Power Solutions as a supplier.

We have worked with PPS to develop a solution to divert our waste from landfill. PPS has implemented an innovative new technology which, we understand, is the first of its kind in the UK to use household waste to produce a fuel (RDF and SRF) to be used as a substitute for fossil fuels. We are now recycling, composting and treating through the SRF Plant 97% of our waste. This has allowed Swindon Borough Council to avoid additional landfill costs of around £2m per year.
