Household Waste Recycling Centre

The Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) is available for use by residents of Swindon to dispose of household recycling and household waste.

The way you use the HWRC has changed

The HWRC is now partially open for essential, pre-booked visits only. This is to ensure we maintain the safety of residents, staff and other site users.

This approach will also limit the number of vehicles queuing on surrounding roads and minimise disruption to local businesses. We also do not wish to disrupt our waste collections, which operate from the same site.

This means:

  • The site is open for pre-booked, essential visits
  • Visitors can book a time slot Monday to Sunday (closed on Wednesdays) between 08.00am and 5.00pm. Slots can be booked up to five working days in advance. New slots will be released daily
  • Bookings are temporarily limited to two per household per calendar month
  • The HWRC will remain closed to trade customers and will not be accepting vans over 3.5 tonnes, trailers, hire vehicles or vehicles with tail lifts until further notice

There are a number of new requirements for anyone wanting to visit the HWRC. Please read the information on these pages carefully to avoid being turned away from the HWRC and wasting your journey.

The pages will tell you:

Vans & Trailers

There have been recent changes at the site to improve safety and reduce waiting times for household cars. All vans and trailers are now using a separate area to tip and are subject to controls to ensure that charges are applied to commercial and non-household waste. Waste will be inspected to ensure that the correct charges are applied to non-household waste and records will be kept to monitor compliance.

If you are bringing household waste in by a van or trailer you will need to bring the following documentation with you:

  • A utility bill or document with your address on (clearly showing that you live in Swindon)
  • If your van/vehicle is hired, you will need to bring your hire agreement with you

Household vans and trailers are limited to 12 visits per year.
Additional visits can be arranged by written request to the site operator, Public Power Solutions Ltd. To request additional visits, please contact us at stating your name, address, vehicle registration number, the number of tips remaining and the reason you require extra visits.

Additional visits will only be permitted when the vehicle is carrying the householder's own household waste and controls will be applied to monitor usage.

Charges & Requirements

Household DIY waste created by the occupier will be limited to no more than five 25kg bags per vehicle. Waste must be brought to site in sturdy bags to avoid excessive unloading time.

All plasterboard and mixed waste containing plasterboard will be charged at £3.50 per bag for up to five bags or at published commercial rates for larger quantities. Plasterboard requires specialist disposal therefore incurs higher charges by disposal sites.

Household asbestos must be in a sealed bag or fully wrapped in plastic sheeting. Charges will not be applied for household asbestos waste produced by the householder. Asbestos that is not wrapped in the correct way will not be accepted at the HWRC.

Any product that could be perceived as asbestos will be treated as asbestos and must be double wrapped and taped prior to delivery.

Car and motorcycle tyres from residential premises will be charged at £2.80 per item.

Household chemicals will only be accepted if they are in secure, sealed, labelled containers.
