Despite the constraints imposed by the health crisis, the last few months have been an extremely busy time for PPS. Our consultancy, development and asset management business streams continue to grow, with over 200 MW of solar and battery storage projects in development or under our management.
In terms of consultancy work, we now work with over 30 community and public sector organisations providing initial feasibility analysis, grid, planning and procurement support to help meet ambitious carbon reduction targets, deliver revenue and cut energy bills.
With the return of large scale solar as a commercially viable solution, local authority climate change declarations and demand for community owned energy projects we are supporting “direct to grid” projects ranging from 5MW to 50 MW. For local authorities in particular, there is clearly a recognition that investing in a new solar farm within or outside their own geographic boundary can deliver significant revenue over a 30-year asset life. They also have an opportunity to sleeve the power back to themselves, providing a genuine carbon offset and long-term price hedge.
“Private wire” solar PV projects – providing a direct supply of electricity- continue to make good commercial sense and we have brought 7 MW through development and procurement to shovel-readiness for 2020/21.
Growing investor confidence in solar PV and battery storage has also helped us build our own pipeline of viable projects that we hope to bring forward for private, public or community ownership in 2021.
