Ethical Power Development Ltd acquires development business of Public Power Solutions

·         The development business of Public Power Solutions Ltd has been acquired by Ethical Power Development Ltd (part of Ethical Power Group) with the deal completed on March 31st 2023.

·         The acquisition includes transfer of the team and the complete project pipeline.

·         The strategic acquisition strengthens Ethical Power Group’s international capability for solar PV and battery energy storage systems development (BESS).

April 3 2023 The development business of Public Power Solutions (PPS) has been acquired by Ethical Power Development Ltd - this includes transfer of the development team and its current solar/storage project pipeline.

PPS and Ethical Power have been working together since July 2021 with multiple projects previously developed in partnership. The acquisition was an attractive opportunity allowing Ethical Power to take on a mature pipeline of projects with a combined capacity of more than 250MW, including large-scale solar PV and BESS co-located projects. The transaction reiterates Ethical Power’s commitment to becoming the leading developer in the UK alongside its growing global presence.

Steve Cains, Director of Power Solutions, PPS, said: “PPS and Ethical Power already share a common commitment to deliver clean energy projects which help tackle the climate crisis and boost the UK’s energy security while delivering long term benefits for local communities. This exciting next step is a natural evolution of our existing partnership providing a sustainable basis for future growth.”

Over the coming years, the UK is expected to require a significant amount of new solar and BESS capacity with a government target of 70GW of solar by 2035. The acquisition underpins Ethical Power’s ambition to strengthen its development business arm by adding a mature pipeline of projects and expanding its team of designers and developers.

Spencer Jansen, Managing Director of Ethical Power Development Ltd, said: “We are very pleased to welcome the PPS team into Ethical Power. In our successful partnership to date, we’ve seen the breadth of their knowledge and experience. This is an important milestone supporting further expansion of the business and will allow us to streamline project developments both in the UK and internationally.”

PPS has supported over 50 public and community organisations to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects throughout the UK, most notably developing a 62MW solar scheme for the Science Museum in Wroughton and providing comprehensive consultancy support for the Ministry of Defence in delivering four solar farms on the defence estate.

PPS has also developed two large-scale BESS projects in Swindon, with the 50 MW Mannington battery being the largest in the UK at the time.

The company also led the development and funding of the Waterside Innovation Hub, comprising solar, battery storage and electric vehicle charging. It was the first project of its kind to be part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the UK, transforming a brownfield site adjacent to Swindon’s Waste Recycling Centre into a multi-technology green innovation project.
