Public Power Solutions Ltd. (PPS) is a company wholly-owned by Swindon Borough Council which has been set up to deliver innovative solutions in the areas of Waste and Power.
PPS was first established (as Swindon Commercial Services) in January 2010 with services transferring from a Direct Labour Organisation under the management of Swindon Borough Council to a limited company. At this time, the company was delivering a wide range of services from waste collection and highways maintenance to construction of new schools and facilities, as well as the services which are currently being delivered by the retained company.
In 2013, Swindon Borough Council made a strategic decision to refocus the company on sustainable energy solutions and waste treatment. The main driver was to take advantage of emerging opportunities to generate a profit and provide a financial return to the Council as shareholder. To enable this to happen, the majority of frontline services previously delivered and managed by SCS were transferred back to the Council under TUPE.
In January 2015 Swindon Commercial Services was rebranded as Public Power Solutions Ltd (PPS), to reflect its new UK-wide role as a provider of innovative power and waste solutions for local authorities and the public sector.
The company is now structured into two distinct business units: Renewable Power and Landfill Reduction solutions, helping to save council taxpayers’ money and offering greener, more sustainable solutions.
Our brand name reflects our mission to become a successful and respected provider of sustainable waste and power solutions for the benefit of the public sector and their local communities.
Public Power Solutions are members of the Solar Trade Association, Community Energy England, British Photovoltaics Society, Regen SW and APSE Energy.
